Somerset ISD Earns Perfect Score on State Financial Accountability Rating

Somerset Independent School District is proud to announce that the district has again earned an A – Superior Achievement Rating with a perfect score of 100% under the state’s School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) for the 2024–2025.

The FIRST system, created by the 77th Texas Legislature in 2001, ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for strong and transparent financial management practices. The rating is designed to encourage districts to manage financial resources responsibly and maximize funding that directly supports student learning.

On November 6, 2025, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released FIRST ratings statewide, reporting that 81% of Texas school systems earned an A rating. FIRST ratings are based on annual financial reports submitted to TEA and evaluated across 21 key financial indicators, including administrative costs, accuracy of financial reporting, and the strength of internal controls validated by external auditors.

“Earning a 100% rating is a remarkable accomplishment and a direct reflection of the integrity, diligence, and expertise of our district," said Luis Gomez, Somerset ISD Chief Financial Officer . “Our commitment ensures that Somerset ISD remains a strong steward of taxpayer dollars and continues to prioritize what matters most—our students.”

This achievement demonstrates Somerset ISD’s continued commitment to responsible financial leadership and its mission to provide high-quality educational opportunities for all students.
