Location: Shirleen Zacharias Early Leadership Academy Library
Times: 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.-2:45 p.m.
Required Documentation for Registering New Students
To ensure a smooth registration process, parents and guardians must bring the following mandatory documents:
1. Proof of Residency:
A current utility bill, tax record, or lease agreement must be presented at the time of enrollment.
Last Report Card/Unofficial Transcript:
Students in the 11th or 12th grade, or those repeating the 9th grade, must provide an unofficial transcript within 10 days of enrollment.
Student's Social Security Card:
This must be presented at the time of enrollment.
5. Student's Birth Certificate:
This must be presented at enrollment. If the student was born in Texas, a birth certificate can be obtained from the San Antonio Health Department.
6. Current Immunization Records:
All immunizations must be up-to-date and records must be presented at enrollment.
Required Documentation for Parents/Guardians
In addition to the student’s documents, the following documents related to parents or guardians are also mandatory:
1. Parent's Texas Driver's License:
Must be presented within 10 days of enrollment.
2. Power of Attorney Document or Divorce Decree:
If there has been a change in custody, this document must be provided within 10 days of any such change.
3. Proof of Residency Document: If the parent/guardian and student are living with a third party, a proof of residency document, notarized by the homeowner, must be presented at the time of enrollment.
Pre-Kindergarten Eligibility Requirements
Child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language;
Child is educationally disadvantaged (which means a student who is eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program, low-income);
Child is homeless;
Child is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States;
Parent or Guardian is a member of the armed forces who was injured or killed while on active duty;
The child is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code; or
Is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award:
a peace officer under Section 3106.002, Government Code;
a firefighter under Section 3106.003, Government Code;
or an emergency medical first responder under Section 3106.004, Government Code.
The Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division, honors recipients annually in September. The resolution (certificate) awarded to an individual serves as proof of eligibility to enroll these children in free prekindergarten if they are age-eligible. A list of past honorees may be viewed on the Criminal Justice Division—Past Honorees webpage. If an individual has a prekindergarten-aged child and has been nominated, but not notified as an honoree prior to the current school year, an individual may make a request to the Office of Early Childhood Education to make an eligibility determination based on the nomination submitted for review to the Criminal Justice Division.
