With decades of research highlighting the benefits of reading throughout the summer months, Somerset makes a splash by providing each and every kindergarten through high school student with a book.
As the school doors closed in early June, students left with books in hand. Students also received activity packs, links to digital resources, and incentives to participate in the SISD Summer Reading Initiative. The materials were selected to encourage students to continue reading, foster a love of the written word, and support continued academic and literacy development.
As students return to class in the fall, teachers will continue the conversations by engaging students in additional activities designed to elevate thinking as we work together striving for excellence.
