Somerset AG Mech

Somerset High School’s Agriculture Mechanics class focuses on building. The AG Mech students build BBQ pits, trailers, dog kennels, and EV race cars. Ag Mechanics also builds students who are ready for the future.

The dual enrollment magnet class not only offers high school credit but dual enrollment credit through Somerset ISD’s partnership with Palo Alto College.

“We have kids building skills by spending time in the shop and at the same time earning college credit,” explained Justin Taylor, SHS Ag Teacher.

Students start this route during their freshman year with an intro to AG Principles of Science.

Second year students will take Agriculture Mechanics followed by structure design, and a practicum class or dual enrollment course.

“I chose this class because I like working with my hands,” said De Andra De Los Santos, Somerset High School senior. “It's fun to work on new projects for an Ag show or fixing things around school. It's always exciting to learn a new skill and add that to your resume.”
