SSGT. Michael P. Barrera Veterans Elementary School (BVE) students wore gold ribbons on October 27^th in memory of Staff Sargent Michael P. Barrera’s passing. The Somerset ISD graduate lost his life in Operation Iraqi Freedom on October 28, 2003. Students, teachers, and staff joined Barrera’s family in a Wreath Laying Dedication Ceremony around the flagpole in front of the campus. Somerset High School’s JROTC Bulldog Battalion led the remembrance and retired military Commander Jim Manzo played Taps. The ceremony ended with inspirational remarks by SSGT. Barrera’s mother.
