Somerset Law

Responsibility, integrity, and trustworthiness are traits instilled in the Somerset ISD Law Enforcement classes. Somerset High School students are eligible to obtain the Private security Noncommissioned level two certification,

“This certification opens the door to working security at places like the Frost Bank Center, even highway construction locations,” said Law Enforcement teacher Velma Benavides.

The CTE class does a great deal of volunteer work outside of the classroom.

“We secure the doors around campus and help with other projects during the day,” explained Ignacio Garcia, Somerset High School Senior. “From making lunches being delivered correctly, watching the doors, and assisting with the pre-lunch courtyard set up, it’s the hands-on part of this class I like.”

There is an after school program for the law classes called Somerset Explorer program, where students can assist at athletic events. The pathway into Practicum Law begins with a conversation with the students’ freshman counselor for the principles of law class.

“Being in the Law program has helped me with my first step into the police academy,” said Somerset High School Senior Belle Partida. “My plan is to go to UTSA while utilizing my certification, start at the police academy and work my way to be an investigator.”
