Somerset ISD will recognized 14 LifeSkills student-athletes with letterman jackets during a new event on September 18, 2025, at the Somerset Performing Arts Center.
The students, from sophomores to seniors, earned their jackets by competing in at least two Special Olympics seasons and participating in six events: bocce, flag football, powerlifting, bowling, basketball, and track.
The event marked the first time Somerset ISD has hosted a ceremony of this kind. Growing participation among LifeSkills students and collaboration with athletic coordinators from surrounding districts have created more opportunities for competition, helping expand Special Olympics involvement across the region.
The celebration included performances by the Somerset High School Band, Cheerleaders, and Dance Team as the student-athletes are honored for their determination, sportsmanship, and commitment.
