On August 26, Austin GEAR UP partnered with the College 1st Program to provide Somerset Junior High students with a unique opportunity to explore careers in engineering. As part of their Career Tech class, students engaged in hands-on activities and interacted with engineering students who shared their knowledge and experiences across various engineering disciplines.

The event aimed to spark interest in STEM fields while giving students a glimpse into the skills, creativity, and teamwork required in engineering. By working directly with college students, Somerset Junior High participants were able to ask questions, practice problem-solving, and gain a better understanding of what it means to pursue a career in a demanding and rewarding industry.

This initiative supports the mission of Austin GEAR UP, which is dedicated to preparing students for college and beyond. A key part of that mission is to provide students with real-world exposure to college life and career pathways, ensuring they are equipped with the confidence and knowledge to pursue their future goals.

Through experiences like these, Somerset Junior High students are empowered to envision themselves as future college students, professionals, and leaders in their chosen fields.
