The excitement is growing at Somerset ISD's annual Robotics Camp as students dive into hands-on learning experiences that combine technology, teamwork, and creativity. Now in its eighth year, the camp continues to evolve, offering students more opportunities than ever before to explore STEM-related fields.

For the first time, campers are participating in Esports activities, adding a competitive gaming element to the program. Students have spent the week competing in Mario Kart tournaments, cheering on teammates and sharpening their strategic thinking skills in a fun and engaging environment.

Beyond Esports, students are learning drone autonomous flight, coding, block coding, and Python programming. In the cafeteria, drones soar through obstacle courses as students work together to complete missions that require communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. Meanwhile, future engineers and programmers are developing robotics skills and learning coding fundamentals from veteran students who have previously competed in robotics competitions.

The camp also serves as an opportunity for returning robotics students to practice and gain a head start before the upcoming school year.

"The robotics program continues to grow, and we are excited to see where it goes this year," said Tabitha Slaughter, Assistant Principal at Somerset Elementary School.

For sixth-grader Juan Antonio Escamilla III, the camp provides a chance to learn while having fun with friends.

"I like working with my peers and being creative. It's really fun. I like to work with my hands, and the math and science can be fun," he said.

As Somerset ISD continues to invest in innovative learning opportunities, Robotics Camp is helping students build valuable skills in technology, collaboration, and critical thinking while inspiring the next generation of engineers, programmers, and digital innovators.
